Effective facilities management can help businesses improve their performance in the present economic climate.

This is according to a new study from the Aberdeen Group, which concluded that firms should be focusing on getting as much value as possible from their current assets by ensuring their facilities and real estate management is as good as possible.

The study found that 65 per cent of the 120 enterprises surveyed see facilities management as a strategic enterprise function.

Research analyst and author of the study Christopher Dwyer said that how businesses support their locations has a "significant impact" on the financial performance of a firm.

"In good times, a focus on cost containment is prudent; in more difficult times, it becomes a necessity," he remarked.

Such an approach may be especially important in Northern Ireland, as a recent report from Asset Skills showed that facilities management capabilities in the country need to be improved.

It noted that the skills required by those working in the industry are changing at a rapid rate.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19543540-ADNFCR
