The need for effective facilities management on construction sites has been flagged up after an Edinburgh-based firm was fined £3,600 for breaching health and safety regulations.
Scotcare Preservation was handed the fine by Selkirk Sherriff Court after failing to sufficiently ensure workers at a site in Galashiels were supervised.
The firm pleaded guilty a number of breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act and also admitted not providing adequate safety training to the site's foreman.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Gordon McLelland, said: "It is fortunate there was no accident as a result of the company's failings. This company had failed to heed previous health and safety advice which is extremely disappointing.
"The risks from working on construction sites, including falls from height, are well known. Falls from height remain the largest cause of fatal and serious injuries in the construction industry."
HSE prosecuted after Scotcare failed to adhere to two improvement notices in 2008.
