BT deal to increase internet speed

January 22nd 14:35 Cost Management

Businesses in the UK looking to increase their work efficiency could be interested in an announcement regarding internet speed from communications service provider BT.

From Monday (January 25th) the firm is to offer internet users in qualifying areas its new BT Infinity service.

The new service will offer download speeds of up to 40 Megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds close to 10Mbps.

By way of comparison, the recent worldwide broadband speed rankings placed the UK 26th with average speed offerings of 3.4Mbps.

This compared to a 14.5Mbps average in first-placed South Korea.

Edd Dawson, managing director of independent advice service broadband.co.uk, said the new speed would give BT an advantage in the business community.

"Infinity's main advantage is its speed, both in terms of download and upload speed, which means that anyone who works in bandwidth-heavy sectors, such as graphic design and video, will obviously find the improvements most noticeable," he said.
