British firms urged to cut energy waste

Businesses in the UK may look to effective facilities management to control their costs following the publication of a new report.

Research from the Carbon Trust has revealed that there are number of financial issues weighing on the minds of the UK's business owners.

Chief of which is rising energy prices, which can be controlled with effective facilities management.

According to the report, other worries included tax increases and the stability of the economy.

The report also revealed that these worries were of more concern to businesses than the effects of a possible change in government at this year's general election.

Data from the report comes as the Carbon Trust launched its 'Best Advice' campaign aimed at helping firms to reduce their carbon emissions while cutting back on their energy costs.

The campaign was launched by Ian Cheshire, chief executive of Kingfisher, which own hardware chain B&Q, who said: "It is simply good business sense to be smarter about the way we use energy.

"It cuts costs, makes us more efficient and improves our reputation with customers."

The report showed that B&Q has "significantly" reduced its energy spend and cut its CO2 emissions by 10,000 since collaborating with the Carbon Trust in 2008.
