A Belfast-based building maintenance firm has suffered the effects of poor facilities management and been handed a fine after a breach of health and safety regulations.
Red Sky were handed a £300 fine and ordered to pay a further £72 in costs after a serious injury was caused to an employee in an incident at a high-street bank, the Belfast Telegraph reported.
Effective facilities management could have helped the incident to have been avoided as the firm would have been better equipped to understand and comply with health and safety regulations.
A spokeswoman for Belfast City Council told the newspaper: "Employers must ensure that they provide and maintain safe equipment and that their systems of work are safe and without risk to employees.
"Belfast City Council is committed to protecting the health and safety of employees whilst they are at work."
Earlier this week a Leicester-based haulage firm faced total costs of nearly £10,000 after it also breaching regulations regarding the storage of flammable materials.
