'Incentives needed' to encourage green processes

Businesses should be given incentives in order to encourage them to adopt environmentally-friendly processes.

This is according to managing director of the Green Consultancy John Treble, who said that favourable tax conditions and rewards may encourage more firms to make changes to their operations.

"Tax breaks or other general or technology-specific carrots and sticks are needed," he remarked, noting that companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), need to be made "more aware" of the interest-free loans and other deals that are available to them.

Utilising these may enable firms to make changes to their facilities management that bring down running costs by reducing the amount spend on energy consumption.

Mr Treble added that cutting waste is "the place to start" for businesses that want to cut their emissions.

He was commenting after ten per cent of the UK's SMEs said in a survey conducted by Enterprise Rent-A-Car that they would not buy green products even if they were cheaper and more convenient than current options.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19509513-ADNFCR
