Firms 'unaware' of carbon-reducing ICT technology

December 8th 17:42 Cost Management

Many businesses do not know that they could be improving the efficiency of their facilities management by switching to new information and communication technology (ICT)-based systems.

This is the view of associate vice-president of consulting at market intelligence provider IDC Chris Ingle, who noted that while some of the available offerings are known to firms, there is generally "a lack of awareness of the full range" of carbon-reducing computer technology that can be utilised.

He said that boosting awareness of the benefits ICT can have in reducing carbon emissions should cause more enterprises to make changes to their operations, adding that recent research by IDC showed that carbon emissions in G20 countries could be brought down by 25 per cent when compared to 2006 emissions standards if ICT technology that is used intensively is replaced.

Mr Ingle concluded that developing stronger links between enterprises and service providers is one way of identifying which technology can be used to help reduce emissions.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19502093-ADNFCR
