Environmental changes to buildings 'will be tenant-driven'

December 9th 16:32 Cost Management

Making changes to commercial property that reduce their impact on the environment is largely down to the businesses that occupy them.

This is according to partner at real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield Clive Bull, who said that environmental factors are likely to become "more important" as the economy recovers.

He noted that alterations are likely to be down to the demands of tenants, stating: "Ultimately, what owners of buildings do is produce the stock that the occupiers of buildings want."

Some businesses may hoping to reduce the cost of their facilities management by relocating to a more energy-efficient premises and Mr Bull added that those who are doing so "will look at the green credentials" of a property before making a decision.

He was commenting after a report from the Carbon Trust was published in the Daily Telegraph that showed emissions from commercial property - which account for 18 per cent of the UK total - have remained largely unchanged over the past two decades.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19503989-ADNFCR
