Energy prices 'could be set for sharp rise'

December 24th 09:46 Cost Management

Businesses may be forced to take extra steps to bring down the cost of their facilities management after it emerged that energy bills could rise as a result of the agreements reached at the recent Copenhagen summit.

According to the Guardian, the price of carbon fell to around €12 (£10) per tonne following the meeting, some way off the €40 per tonne value that is needed to make it financially viable for energy firms to build new, more efficient power stations.

A spokesman for E.ON told the news source that it is not prepared to invest in new facilities until the price increase and said further government action is needed in order to tighten carbon markets.

Otherwise, he remarked, power prices would "go through the roof" as suppliers would wait until the last possible moment before replacing aging machinery.

Companies that want to reduce their facilities management expenditure may wish to install new heating systems, as grants of up to £500,000 are available for those that choose to do this.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19530772-ADNFCR
