Demand 'to rise' for IT-based facilities management

December 29th 10:12 Cost Management

Demand from businesses looking to reduce the cost of facilities management by making their buildings smarter is set to rise, according to one technology firm.

According to eWeek Europe, Telent believes that a growing number of companies will be looking for services that combine the management of IT networks and the buildings in which they are housed.

Bob Swallow, general manager of the firm's integrated systems unit, explained that new laws and regulations have resulted in firms having to review their current facilities management operations in order to bring down their costs and ensure they comply with the revised guidelines.

"We're expecting a boom in this sort of business," he was quoted as saying, adding that technology could be introduced to switch employees' computers off when they leave the building in order to save power.

Bring down energy expenditure may become critical for companies in the future, as a spokesperson for E.ON recently told the Guardian that the cost of fuel could increase if the price of carbon does not rise.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19532776-ADNFCR
