Businesses 'can get bio-heating funding'

December 17th 20:53 Cost Management

Businesses and schools that want to install greener heating systems as part of a programme to improve their facilities management may not be eligible for funding from the government.

Organisations can apply for up to £500,000 to help replace their old heating system with new biomass-fuelled heating technology, which can bring down running costs and reduce the carbon footprint of a building.

Cash is also available to fund the installation of combined heat and power projects and energy and climate change minister Lord Hunt welcomed the move.

"We expect bio-energy to supply a third of our renewable energy by 2020 and these grants will help support that," he remarked, adding that the aim is to have 200 new boilers installed by 2011, which will save over 72,000 tonnes of carbon annually.

Earlier this month, John Treble of Green Consultancy suggested that tax breaks or other incentives would be an ideal way of encouraging firms to adopt greener processes.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19519253-ADNFCR
