Workplace injuries 'can be cut out by regular exercise'

November 20th 10:06 Health and Safety

Employees should take regular exercise in order to avid the risk of injury at the workplace.

This is according to the Health & Safety Laboratory, which has advised personnel to take regular breaks and keep active while in the office.

Companies involved with facilities management may wish to encourage such activity so as to avoid them falling foul of any health and safety legislation regarding the wellbeing of employees.

Ergonomist at the Health & Safety Laboratory Matt Birtles said centralising office bins is one idea firms could consider, as this would encourage people to move away from their desks and may also help with recycling - which can save firms money.

"Each time we stand up and walk about it gives our body a break from the fixed posture and lets the muscles relax and blood flow freely," he explained.

Mr Birtles was commenting after a study published by researchers in Denmark showed that exercising using dumbbells can reduce pain.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19471787-ADNFCR
