Improving efficiency key to reducing cost of facilities management?

Businesses in the UK could save millions of pounds if they implement new measures to improve resource efficiency.

This is according to a new survey conducted by Tickbox.net and Opinion Matters on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which suggested that firms in the country could gain back £6.4 billion every year were they to implement simple changes.

These include turning down thermostats, tightening dripping taps and switching off lights - methods those involved with facilities management may wish to encourage employees to adopt.

Figures collected as part of the research also showed that Britons are less likely to be environmentally-friendly while at work, with 40 per cent saying they recycle plastic at home but not in the office.

Hilary Benn, environment secretary, said that finding new ways to save money "will help businesses retain a competitive edge".

"Simple steps like using less energy or considering what you throw away are easy ways to make savings," he added.

Recent figures from uSwitchforBusiness.com revealed that cost-cutting is becoming an increasing priority for businesses.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19469463-ADNFCR
