HSE issues gas fitter warning

The importance of hiring correctly-qualified gas fitters has been highlighted by a new campaign from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week is currently taking place and the body has issued figures showing that 28 people were prosecuted for breaking gas legislation during 2008-09.
Many of these involved engineers that did not have the proper qualifications and those involved with facilities management may wish ensure they use competent gas fitters to avoid putting employees at risk.
"We are tireless in our pursuit of those engineers who don't take their responsibilities seriously and cost or risk lives as a result," remarked head of the work environment, radiation and gas division at the HSE Peter Brown.
He added that it is "essential" a registered gas fitter is used.
Growing numbers of businesses may be looking to use the services of gas fitters, after insurance firm RSA said that updating heating equipment can help firms save money.
