HSE advises Norwich employees on asbestos

The Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) campaign highlighting the dangers of asbestos has advised Norwich employees on how to deal with the harmful material.
Asbestos: The Hidden Killer includes a series of talks taking place at colleges across Britain, which may be of interest to facilities management firms that want to learn more about the substance and the risks it poses.
Asbestos expert at the HSE Paul Carter explained that around 4,000 people die from diseases related to asbestos every year.
"Roughly a quarter of these deaths are people in the building trades," he said, adding that "hundreds of thousands" of buildings still contain asbestos, which produces a "deadly dust" if it is disturbed or damaged.
A video of former pipe fitter Christopher Morgan - who has undergone treatment for incurable lung cancer mesothelioma as a result of working with asbestos - is shown to those that attend the events.
The campaign was launched at the beginning of this month and is backed by £1.2 million of funding.
