Businesses to use facilities management to cut power usage?

November 2nd 17:21 Cost Management

Businesses are set to place greater emphasis on reducing power usage in the coming months.

This is according to Jim Docherty, who explained in an article for Accounting Web that rising prices and pressure from the government are likely to result in firms adjusting their facilities management processes in order to cut energy consumption.

He noted that encouraging employees to switch off their computers when they leave the office can help with this issue, as can introducing the ability for IT departments to schedule updates remotely.

Mr Docherty said that while the amount of power drawn by computers may be relatively small when compared to usage elsewhere in a building or company, the large numbers of machines means that investing in desktop power management "can create significant savings for the company on top of any carbon reduction results".

FM World recently reported that demand for facilities management software has not fallen significantly as a result of the economic downturn.ADNFCR-2717-ID-19438787-ADNFCR
