Businesses have been fined for allowing their employees to be exposed to asbestos while at work, something that could highlight the importance of stringent health and safety rules when carrying out facilities management.
The Health and Safety and Executive (HSE) issued penalties to two businesses and a company director after they were found to have a number of regulations relating to the exposure to asbestos
Inspector at the body Stuart Kitchingman said that it had taken the decision to prosecute Recon Packaging and Industrial & Commercial Building Services - as well as managing director of the latter Kevin Bennett - after carrying out inspections at a demolition site.
"Asbestos is the single biggest industrial killer in Britain and the control measures on this site were totally inadequate," he remarked.
The HSE recently fined Ineos Manufacturing Scotland after an incident in which a personnel member was burned while carrying out work close to live power lines.
